I Wish I Could Knit It

Thank you all for stopping by and leaving comments about Mt. Cashmere! I cant wait to get back to the knitting, and meet up with my new eight legged friends this Friday.

There hasn’t been much knitting going on over here, and I've been a terrible blogger, but I have three excuses. The first two are long and involved and relate to work and blah blah stressful boring. The third is funny - ha ha funny, not weird funny. If you knew me personally, it might make you laugh (it seems to have had that affect on all the real live people I’ve told so far).

Because I am a cheapskate and a dumbass, I am trying to make my own wedding veil.

Oh yes, nuptial plans are afoot (and have been for quite some time, I’m just a veilmaking slacker) and the deadline is SWIFTLY approaching. Like, we are now counting in days rather than months. 33. Days. Left.

Do you know how much a wedding veil costs? For a cheesy looking piece of tulle? Oooh, so much more than it should.

I took Home EC. And I can knit socks and lace. I can do this! (Right?)

I’ve got the tulle, I’ve got the sparkly headband, I’ve got the ribbon for the edges, and I’ve got the sparkly beads to glue on the ribbon. (The previous sentence now makes me wonder if I went overboard on the sparkle.)

Here it is so far...

The eagle eyed reader may notice that it is resting atop my still unfinished Rogue.

I’ve glued my fingers together 87 times already, and I am so sick of this project that I’m now thinking $5,000 is a reasonable price for a piece of tulle with beaded ribbon sewed to the edge. Hooray for the blessed union into which I am about to enter.

Well, I don't know what tulle is, and I don't know what an unfinished rigue is....but I can certainly relate to to glueing your fingers together 87 times =:o

Ok, let's kick it into high gear, veilmaking slacker! Chop chop! Hee hee....

I'm sure you'll manage--and think of all the yarn you'll be able to buy with the $4980 you saved

I made my sister's veil, and ended up sewing the ribbons on, as well as one million billion tiny pearls. It might be more time-consuming to sew the beads in the short term, but it would be pretty hard to sew your fingers together. Plus, they'd be less likely to fall off at inappropriate times.

And also? Wedding veils? What a freaking racket.

Have you been using tweezers? If not, it might help the fingers a bit. Either way, I'm sure it looks wonderful! And I'm wicked impressed that you're undertaking this huge project. Lastly, I'm wicked jealous of the cashmere booty.
With all the wickeds nestled in here, can you tell I'm a Boston-er?

Have you considered having an elegant, sleek, pure (ie no sparkles) veil? Of course, I've been drooling on my sparkly alpaca yarn that Marie spun for me, so I totally understand the sparkles addiction... The above suggestion is purely to save your sanity!

hmm well if you wish you could knit it...why not? I think a fine lace veil would look so much more impressive than a tulle one! And knitting beads into it does not involve any adhesive at all.

Woah at first I thought that you were knitting your own veil! I am very impressed with your craftiness. Good luck!

i can't believe i missed three posts on your blog! am i the only person in the universe not using bloglines? i can't explain my reticence.

anyway! i'm jealous that you met the spiders, and i'm sorry the veil is so vexing! but i'm out of my league when it comes to tulle ...

You are ambitious to make your own veil, just keep trying, if it doesn't work, you can always knit up some lovely lace. You've got time with a wedding in 33 days, right???

woo hoo! an upcoming wedding! don't sweat the veil. just do your best and improvise with some lace or maybe flowers if it doesn't work out. definitely don't stress!
