Riotous Vacation Day

Today was the first day of my three day weekend. When you work in a restaurant, holidays mean tourists and long hours, not time off, so I’m enjoying my Thanksgiving vacation a little late this year.

How did I celebrate?

Smiley’s Yarn RRRRRiot!!!

Here's some riotously colorful cheap yarn

And some of the other rioters

The line stretched around the store; the crowds were dense and moving fast. Most of the yarn was flammable. I’ll confess here and now that I cracked under the pressure and, after a brief scan of the pickings, fled to Philly Slims for a therapeutic cheesesteak. Maybe next year.

You may notice that I also did a little redecorating around here using a new template, hope it's an improvement!

my gosh, it's pretty over in these here parts. like the new template.

and my god, the humanity! i don't i have it in me to handle these crowds. i think trying to shop at Century 21 during the weekend some years back traumatized me.

hope you enjoy the rest of your vacation. :)

Wow, it's like the infamous Filene's basement wedding gown sale! Did you witness any catfights over the $6 ribbon yarn?

I would have run away too, especially for a cheesesteak.

I'm with Sandra! That looks like an overwhelming amount of yarn and people, all crammed into one area. Sorry you didn't make any great finds... Have a great few days off work!

wow, love the new design! it's so clean and functional :) which is something that i always love to see.

the yarn riot was a bit crazy but i managed to get some bubblegum pink cotton ease (perfect for some spring knits for baby) and a big bag of charcoal grey merino yarn for a sweater for either me or KP. their notions area was good too. otherwise, there was a lot of crap yarn there that people were buying by the garbage bag full! :)

I think I conveniently forgot about the Smiley's sale - those crowds would have scared the sh*t out of me though :) Enjoy the rest of your time off.

I, too, fled empty handed. I think I suffered from too much stimulation. I love the new design in here!

I've never been to smileys. I'm sure I'll find more gifts at threadless. I love it!

Yikes, sounds scary! I missed the email, otherwise I'd have gone... but your post makes me not regret it so much. :) Better luck next time.

Mmmm...therapeutic cheesesteak. Is there any other kind?

I am totally not woman enough for the Yarn Riot. You get bonus points just for showing up.
